...determined to satisfy
and delight our customers
Janet and Steve Burpee founded BMT in 1998 to provide customers faster and simpler development timelines, improved manufacturability of new designs, and ultimately, world-class manufacturing. We specialize in complete design and fabrication of self-expanding (nitinol) and balloon-expanding stents, and a broad range of stent-like devices for emerging applications. In-house capabilities include laser cutting, nitinol heat-treating and forming, electropolishing and various surface finishing (all medical alloys), device characterization and material/ device testing, FEA and automated dimensional inspection. BMT is an ISO 13485 and ISO 9001 certified company.

BMT specializes in high yield, high quality manufacturing of stents and stent-like devices and components. Our expertise ranges from fine neurovascular and coronary devices to large AAA/TAA and valve components fabricated from nitinol, Co-Cr, stainless steel and other biocompatable metals. Our capabilities include:
State-of-the-Art Laser Machining From Tubing
World-class Surface Finishing
Nitinol Forming/Shape Setting
Other Capabilities
In early 2009, BMT introduced design and manufacturing of self-expanding stent delivery systems. All manufacturing is done in a class 100,000 clean room (10,000 certification available) by experienced engineers and technicians. Our ERP system supports just-in-time manufacturing. Quality Assurance systems meet all regulatory and cGMP requirements and can be customized to support each customers’ unique internal quality specifications. BMT supports each step in OEM and private-label product development and can help bring products to market fast. Our capabilities include:
BMT can tailor product development services appropriate to the phase, timing and budget of any design project. The project scope can be an entire device development cycle or merely tweaking a design or concept. To achieve particular project goals, BMT can pull together any combination of design, prototyping, simulation and testing.
BMT designs for performance, manufacturability and time-to-market. We understand how to design for the different phases of development in a cost-effective, performance-driven manner. Having design, prototyping, simulation and testing under one roof allows BMT to employ an integrated development approach in which designs are optimized through finite element modeling and/or a prototype-testing cycle. Tight integration of design with simulation and prototyping allows for a very efficient development cycle.
BMT has designed metallic devices for a wide variety of applications. We use several Computer Aided Design tools such as AutoCad, Solidworks, and Pro/E for design, and ABAQUS for finite element analysis (FEA). BMT has developed methods to use FEA early in the development cycle to cost-effectively optimize key performance metrics like strain, radial force, and stiffness against device requirements.
Testing is a key component of BMT’s product development services. BMT has developed in-vitro tests for a variety of stent performance metrics and for anatomical simulation. Our in-house testing can be customized for any application.
BMT employs a broad array of inspection and testing for Quality Assurance of all clinical and commercial devices. Our Quality team uses a variety of automated and/or precision tools to verify and certify deliverable devices. In product development, our broad testing expertise enables customized characterization of any device application. Capabilities include mechanical, functional (anatomical) and physical tests. BMT also uses outside test labs as needed for more complete characterization such as chemical surface analysis, corrosion testing, and electron spectroscopy.
